My friend’s father died on a Tuesday. No warning. Heart attack at 68. Healthy guy. Played tennis that morning.
She told me something at the funeral that I can’t stop thinking about. “I kept saying we’d have lunch when work calmed down. It never calmed down. Now it never will.”
She had thirty years of opportunities to have lunch with her father. She was always going to do it. Just not today. Today was busy. Next week was better. Next month was clearer. Someday soon when things settled.
Things never settled. And someday never came. Now it can’t.
