Think back to this time last year. Chances are, just about everything in your life has changed! For many of us, this includes our jobs, or at least how and where it’s done. With all of these changes, it’s more important than ever to check in with your employees. And one of the best ways to do this is with employee pulse surveys.
What are employee pulse surveys?
Think of employee pulse surveys like an overall check-in with your team.
It’s an opportunity to gather your team’s opinions, thoughts, and feelings. It gives them the opportunity to let you know where or what they’re struggling with, what’s working, and what isn’t.
Depending on your specific business, you can customize your survey based on your goals and what you need to know.
But before we get to some of the questions to include in employee pulse surveys, let’s talk about the easiest way to run one!
How to run employee pulse surveys

There are a few ways to run a survey with Swift:

Creating employee pulse surveys
To create your first survey, you’ll log in to your Swift Polling account (sign up is incredibly quick!).
Next, you’ll click “Create New Poll” in the top right corner.
Now it’s time to choose your voting template and create your questions.
For employee pulse surveys, most hosts opt for multiple choice or an open-ended format.
Either way, these questions can be created in a matter of seconds!
You can add multiple answer options for participants to choose from, along with a number of other customization options. These include how you display results, linking to another poll, and what happens when a poll becomes inactive.
Launching employee pulse surveys
Once you’ve created your survey questions, it’s time to share them with participants.
You’ll click on Present and be taken to a screen with different options for how you’ll share your survey.
Most of the time, employee pulse surveys take some time to be filled out. They’re not the type of thing you want to rush your employees through, especially if you want thoughtful, honest answers.
Once you’ve shared the survey link with your participants, you can keep the survey live for as long as you choose so your participants have time to respond.
Then, as they respond, our system automatically collects their responses for you!
Anonymity should always be considered when it comes to employee pulse surveys.
If your employees are nervous about sharing their honest opinions, giving them the ability to share anonymously is incredibly powerful. This encourages honest feedback, and you’ll get more accurate, useful responses this way.
Sample employee pulse surveys questions
Now that you know how to create and run a survey, let’s talk about some of the questions you might include in yours!
Here are some ideas:
How happy are you at work? (You could an choose multiple choice, rating, or open-ended format)
On a scale of 1–10, how would you rate your work-life balance?
How likely are you to recommend our organization’s products or services to a friend?
I am given opportunities to learn and develop my skills: agree or disagree.
Our company values diverse opinions and thoughts: agree or disagree.
My opinions are taken into account at work: agree or disagree.
People of all different backgrounds and beliefs are welcomed here: agree or disagree.
