When someone says “that’s impossible” or “that won’t work,” they’re giving you information. Just not the information you think.

I told my dad I was going to start a business.
“That doesn’t work for people like us.”
I told my manager I wanted to move into a director role within two years.
“Be realistic. That track takes five to seven years minimum.”
I told a friend I was going to write online until I built an audience.
“Everyone tries that. Nobody makes it.”
Here’s what I learned: when someone tells you something is impossible, they’re almost never talking about you.
They’re talking about themselves.
But here’s what took me longer to figure out: sometimes they’re right. Not about you. But about the thing itself.
The hard part isn’t ignoring everyone who doubts you. It’s knowing which voices to ignore and which to listen to.
