Today was a day where we learnt not only a leadership lesson, but a lesson in humanity.

Mitt Romney.

Wearing a mask, marching proudly towards the Whitehouse.

His entourage?

Protesters chanting about police brutality.

Mitt Romney doesn’t show up often, but when he does — it’s in a big way.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but Mitt is the only republican senator to actively engage in any support of the protests surrounding the death of George Floyd and the general sentiment that racism still runs rampant in the states (and abroad).

A reporter stopped him and asked him what he was doing there.

The republican Senator responded, “We need to stand up and say that black lives matter.”

So simple.

Something that is obviously not a partisan topic, has turned into one.

Right wing — “You’re weak and pandering to the SJW’s.”

Left wing — “You’re inauthentic and only want to win the public.”

Maybe we should stop berating a positive thing, and for the first time in a long time, we saw someone in politics, act like a human.

There have been many leadership tests over the past few months, with individuals being tested repeatedly, and in many unfortunate circumstances, failing.

But let’s not let past performance be indicative of future possibility.

Let’s look at Mitt as an example of how we all should act (until we’re proven his motives lie elsewhere).

Politics aside.

Humanity first.

I know it’s odd and unusual and it puts us on edge, as we live in a society of skepticism, and cynicism and cancel culture and twitter yelling.

But for once, let’s just accept this act as something that more leaders could learn from, on both sides of the fence.

Let’s emulate Mitt and just support our neighbors, peers and fellow humans and at the end of the day.
